Installing culverts in watercourses

What is a culvert?

A culvert is a covered channel or pipe usually built to allow the land around it to be used.

Culverts can be hard to maintain and can have a negative impact on flood risk and the environment. It can also destroy wildlife habitat, increase the risk of flooding, maintenance requirements and can make it difficult to deal with pollution.
