‘Local’ flooding in Essex means the risk of water from man-made drainage systems, small watercourses and rainfall off the land. Reducing local flooding can be a complicated problem, often involving many different people and organisations.

The Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment (PFRA) and flood risk areas (FRAs) for Essex County Council were reviewed during 2017 and update, using all current flood risk data and information. This updates the council's original PRFA report published in 2011.
