When do we investigate a flood?

Under Section 19 of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010, we respond to every reported flooding incident,  and then make an assessment whether to carry out a detailed investigation under the terms of the Act.

We will investigate incidents of internal property flooding if they meet the following criteria:

  • The property has been flooded internally on more than one occasion OR
  • Five or more properties experienced internal flooding during a single flood incident

AND

  • If the source of the incident or who is responsible is unknown

Where can I find Flood Investigation reports?

Look at our Asset Register to see where we have carried out Flood Investigations.

To request a particular Flood Investigation report, send an email to floods@essex.gov.uk
